										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>MB Energy</strong> and Swiss technology company <strong>Metafuels</strong> plan to jointly establish an integrated <strong>European supply chain</strong> for <strong>synthetic aviation fuel (SAF)</strong>. The cooperation will cover the entire process, from production and certification to blending, logistics and the delivery of finished eSAF at the airport.</p>
<p>The agreements were signed on the occasion of the opening of Metafuels’ new <strong>demonstration plant in Switzerland.</strong> At the facility, the company is developing its so-called aerobrew process, which converts renewable methanol into synthetic aviation fuel. Metafuels describes the demonstration facility as the world’s first methanol-to-jet plant.</p>
<p>The cooperation will initially focus on the planned Turbe project in <strong>Rotterdam</strong>, which is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2030. Metafuels and MB Energy intend to jointly develop solutions for market access, certification, blending, infrastructure, logistics and the necessary flow of information throughout the supply chain. The aim is to transport certified and fully blended eSAF from the production site all the way to the aircraft.</p>
<p>MB Energy could also play a role at the beginning of the value chain. Under a planned agreement, the <strong>company is being considered as a supplier of the methanol required for production.</strong> In addition, MB Energy brings its existing expertise in trading, logistics and infrastructure, as well as experience with certification processes.</p>
<h3>Scaling up eSAF is also an infrastructure challenge</h3>
<p>The cooperation addresses a challenge that will become increasingly important as eSAF production expands. New production facilities alone are not enough. The fuel must be certified, transported, stored and blended with conventional aviation fuel before it can actually reach an aircraft through existing airport infrastructure.</p>
<p>Metafuels therefore sees not only the fuel technology itself, but the <strong>entire supply chain as a decisive factor for scaling up production</strong>. With the Turbe project in mind, the partners aim to establish a robust infrastructure for feedstocks, logistics and delivery well ahead of the planned start of production in 2030.</p>
<p>The cooperation between MB Energy and Metafuels therefore targets precisely the interface between new eSAF production and existing fuel infrastructure. The key will be to turn individual production projects into functioning supply chains through which synthetic aviation fuel can reliably reach airports in certified form.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.enilive.de/en-DE/">Enilive</a> is acquiring the <strong>OIL! filling station network</strong> with around 320 locations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark. The acquisition not only strengthens the company’s market presence in Central Europe, but could also significantly accelerate the expansion of HVO100.</p>
<p>Enilive is already one of Europe’s leading suppliers of renewable fuels and offers its own HVO100 product, HVOlution, which is already available through a growing network of filling stations in Italy and Germany. The integration of the OIL! locations now creates an opportunity to gradually expand this offering into additional markets. Existing filling stations can be adapted for HVO100 comparatively easily, as the fuel can be stored and dispensed using existing infrastructure.</p>
<p>For Germany in particular, this is an interesting development. Although an increasing number of vehicle manufacturers approve HVO100 and demand from the transport, logistics and fleet sectors is growing, the number of available filling stations remains limited. An established operator with several hundred locations could help significantly increase the availability of HVO and make access easier for both commercial and private users.</p>
<p>At the same time, the acquisition shows that competition in the European fuel market is increasingly shifting towards the question of who provides the infrastructure for renewable fuels. Alongside production capacity, the expansion of filling station networks is therefore becoming a key factor in driving the market penetration of HVO100.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong>BMW Group</strong> and <strong>Enilive</strong> have signed an agreement to expand the use of HVO100 in BMW’s corporate fleets in Italy. In future, suitable diesel vehicles operated by BMW Group Italia will be fuelled with Enilive HVOlution, a fuel made from renewable feedstocks that, according to Enilive, can be used in many approved diesel vehicles without technical modifications (more information: https://www.enilive.de/produkte/hvolution).</p>
<p>The focus is not on theory, but on the practical use of HVO100 in everyday operations. Large corporate fleets are under increasing pressure to reduce their emissions, while vehicles must remain available for daily use and economically viable to operate. This is precisely where HVO100 comes in: the fuel allows existing diesel powertrains to remain in use and enables an immediate reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over the life cycle, without the need to replace vehicles or build charging infrastructure.</p>
<p>The <strong>agreement</strong> is also noteworthy for the signal it sends. While many manufacturers are discussing alternative powertrains, BMW is now also using the fuel in its own operational environment. For Enilive, the cooperation represents another step in the expansion of the HVO market in Italy. The company already operates several biorefineries and is one of the key players in scaling up renewable liquid fuels in Europe.</p>
<p>The move also demonstrates that the decarbonisation of vehicle fleets does not have to rely exclusively on replacing vehicles. Particularly for existing fleets, renewable fuels can provide an additional option for reducing emissions in the short term while continuing to use existing infrastructure. In Italy, where Enilive is continuously expanding its HVO100 network, this is creating an increasing number of real-world applications beyond pilot projects and demonstrations.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.shell.com/business-customers/catalysts-technologies.html">Shell Catalysts &amp; Technologies</a> and <a href="https://www.engie-deutschland.de/de">ENGIE</a> are working together on the <strong>French eSAF project France KerEAUzen in Le Havre</strong>. The goal is the production of power-based Sustainable Aviation Fuel from biogenic CO₂ and green hydrogen.</p>
<p>Shell is contributing its <strong>XTL Process technology</strong>, i.e. a <strong>power-to-liquids pathway</strong> for producing synthetic fuels such as eSAF. This makes another industrial building block visible — one intended to move eSAF in Europe out of the project pipeline and towards concrete implementation.</p>
<p>This matters for the SAF ramp-up because it addresses exactly the critical factors: technology, location, CO₂ source, green hydrogen and industrial scaling. France KerEAUzen shows that eSAF is increasingly being thought of as a real production pathway, not just as a regulatory target.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.neste.com/de-de/">Neste</a> and <a href="https://www.petrocard.com">PetroCard Inc.</a> are expanding their <strong>partnership for renewable diesel</strong> (HVO100) in the <strong>Pacific Northwest of the United States</strong>. Additional HVO fuelling options in <strong>Washington</strong> and <strong>Oregon</strong> are intended to give commercial fleets easier access to the fuel, which can be used immediately in existing diesel engines. For logistics, construction and municipal fleets this is a relevant factor, because emission reductions are not tied to replacing the vehicles first — Neste&#8217;s HVO fuel can be used directly in existing vehicles as a &#8220;drop-in&#8221; solution.</p>
<p>The focus is on <a href="https://www.neste.com/de-de/produkte-und-innovation/neste-my-renewable-diesel">Neste MY Renewable Diesel</a>, which is supplied via the PetroCard network. According to the report, the fuel is based on <strong>waste and residue feedstocks</strong>, and according to manufacturer Neste&#8217;s website it can reduce life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75 percent compared with fossil diesel, depending on raw materials and supply chain. For fleet operators in particular, this combination is decisive: keep using existing vehicles, but improve the CO₂e balance right away.<br />
The infrastructure aspect is also interesting. The expansion is meant not only to create more locations, but also to <strong>shorten delivery routes</strong> and <strong>strengthen security of supply</strong>. PetroCard points to a significant increase in customer demand over the past year, driven by corporate sustainability targets and regulatory incentives. This means HVO is <strong>no longer positioned as a niche fuel</strong> in the region, but as a practical tool for existing diesel fleets. In the US, however, HVO already has a long-standing &#8220;tradition&#8221; as a blending component — but it is now increasingly found at filling stations as a neat fuel as well.</p>
<p>The news is also interesting for the European market: while electrification and hydrogen will play important roles in the long term, the expansion in Washington and Oregon shows how renewable liquid fuels can help decarbonise hard-to-electrify applications in the short term. What matters is less the individual filling station than the network behind it. Availability, short delivery routes and robust sustainability certification are what make HVO truly scalable for fleets and attractive for large-scale use in industry, logistics and other transport sectors.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.topsoe.com">Topsoe</a> and <a href="https://www.preem.com/en/">Preem</a> have completed a successful <strong>co-processing run</strong> at the <strong>Gothenburg refinery</strong>, in which waste- and <strong>residue-based lipids</strong> were processed <strong>together with conventional refinery feedstocks</strong> in a single plant. The result: both renewable diesel (HVO) and <strong>SAF</strong> could be produced &#8220;in parallel&#8221; from existing infrastructure.</p>
<p>The key point is the <strong>scaling lever</strong> this creates. Instead of waiting solely for new standalone plants, co-processing demonstrates how existing hydrotreating units can be used for renewable fuels such as SAF and HVO. Topsoe points to its own <a href="https://www.topsoe.com/solutions/technologies/process-licensing/hydroflex-technology">HydroFlex technology</a>, which allows biogenic feedstocks to be integrated without rebuilding the refinery from scratch.</p>
<p>For global scaling, however,<strong> renewable diesel and SAF</strong> need more than just new large-scale projects, ambitious investors and the right framework conditions. They also need pragmatic routes via existing infrastructure, clear specifications and fast implementation that isn&#8217;t held back by regulation. Steps like these can help bring available volumes to market sooner and drive the scaling of SAF and beyond!</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Mazda</strong> and <a href="https://www.nipponexpress.com">Nippon Express</a> have launched a <strong>real-world trial using <a href="https://efuel-today.com/hvo/">HVO</a></strong> in Japan for trailers involved in finished vehicle logistics. Since May 2026, the pilot has been running between Mazda’s plant in the Nishinoura district of Hofu and the Nakanoseki Finished Vehicle Yard, covering a route of approximately 12 kilometres.</p>
<p>The objective is to generate reliable operational data under real-world conditions. The trial focuses on fuel consumption, vehicle performance and operational challenges in everyday logistics. The two trailers involved are being operated under conditions comparable to conventional diesel use, including varying load profiles, maintenance routines and inspections. Isuzu is providing technical support for the project, while the fuel is supplied through NX Shoji.</p>
<p>The project highlights how HVO is increasingly being evaluated as a practical option for reducing emissions in vehicle and parts logistics. Within existing transport networks, fuel switching can represent a pragmatic first step towards decarbonisation without requiring the immediate replacement of vehicles or infrastructure. This approach is becoming increasingly relevant across many industries looking to reduce emissions from their existing fleets.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.airbus.com/en">Airbus</a>, <a href="https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/technip-energies-airbus-safran-and-tereos-join-forces-develop-sustainable-aviation-fuel-production-2026-06-09">Safran</a>, <strong>Technip Energies</strong> and <strong>Tereos</strong> aim to develop a <strong>large-scale SAF plant at the Port of Dunkirk</strong> (Dunkerque, France) through their joint venture “Rebound”. The target capacity is <strong>around 160,000 tonnes of Alcohol-to-Jet SAF per year</strong>.</p>
<p>The project is based on the <strong>“Alcohol-to-Jet Fuel”</strong> pathway and will use advanced ethanol from agricultural and forestry residues, which can be upgraded into drop-in jet fuel. During the development phase, Technip Energies will act as the lead developer across the value chain, from feedstock through to aviation end use, including placing the fuel on the market directly at the airport.</p>
<p>A key enabler for implementation is that the Port of Dunkirk has already allocated an industrial site to Technip Energies, which is expected to provide logistical and permitting advantages. The partners are now funding project development including engineering studies; the establishment of the joint venture is subject to the usual approvals and is expected to be finalised in the second half of 2026.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>ORLEN</strong> has commissioned a new <strong>HVO plant for the hydrogenation of vegetable oils</strong> (HVO synthesis) in <strong>Płock</strong>. The facility is expected to supply around 300,000 tonnes of biofuel components per year and significantly accelerate the ramp-up of renewable diesel components in Europe. We have already explained how HVO production works <a href="https://efuel-today.com/hvo/">here</a>.</p>
<p>What stands out is the supply-chain approach: ORLEN highlights the use of local feedstocks (including rapeseed oil and used cooking oil, UCO) and positions the investment as strengthening supply security and domestic value creation. The investment is stated at more than PLN 800 million (roughly €180–190 million, depending on the exchange rate).</p>
<p>Strategically, this fits into a broader vision: with the new plant, ORLEN says the group’s biofuel capacity increases to around 700,000 tonnes per year, with a target of 1.1 million tonnes by 2030. For the market, this is a clear signal that HVO is not just about “availability at the pump”, but increasingly about industrial scale with predictable volumes.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="p1">Rolls-Royce Power Systems is switching <strong>engine test benches</strong> at several sites to <span class="s1"><b><a href="https://efuel-today.com/hvo/">HVO</a> (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil)</b></span>. According to the company, this significantly reduces the CO₂ emissions from test runs, a clear signal that HVO is not only viable for vehicle fleets, but can also serve as a standard fuel in industrial development and testing environments.</p>
<p class="p1">Test facilities in <span class="s1"><b>Friedrichshafen, Augsburg and Ruhstorf</b></span> are mentioned. The switch is expected to save <span class="s1"><b>around 3,200 tonnes of CO₂ per year</b></span>, according to Rolls-Royce Power Systems. The company also cites positive effects on <span class="s1"><b>soot particles</b></span> and <span class="s1"><b>NOx &#8211;</b></span> which is particularly relevant because test environments often reflect long operating hours and full-load duty cycles.</p>
<p class="p1">For the market, this is an important signal: when an OEM-adjacent player uses HVO in its own development and validation infrastructure, it strengthens confidence in the fuel as a <span class="s1"><b>drop-in lever</b></span> for existing applications. This is how scaling happens: through real operating data, repeatable processes, and consistent implementation in day-to-day operations.</p>
