										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.topsoe.com">Topsoe</a> and <a href="https://www.preem.com/en/">Preem</a> have completed a successful <strong>co-processing run</strong> at the <strong>Gothenburg refinery</strong>, in which waste- and <strong>residue-based lipids</strong> were processed <strong>together with conventional refinery feedstocks</strong> in a single plant. The result: both renewable diesel (HVO) and <strong>SAF</strong> could be produced &#8220;in parallel&#8221; from existing infrastructure.</p>
<p>The key point is the <strong>scaling lever</strong> this creates. Instead of waiting solely for new standalone plants, co-processing demonstrates how existing hydrotreating units can be used for renewable fuels such as SAF and HVO. Topsoe points to its own <a href="https://www.topsoe.com/solutions/technologies/process-licensing/hydroflex-technology">HydroFlex technology</a>, which allows biogenic feedstocks to be integrated without rebuilding the refinery from scratch.</p>
<p>For global scaling, however,<strong> renewable diesel and SAF</strong> need more than just new large-scale projects, ambitious investors and the right framework conditions. They also need pragmatic routes via existing infrastructure, clear specifications and fast implementation that isn&#8217;t held back by regulation. Steps like these can help bring available volumes to market sooner and drive the scaling of SAF and beyond!</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.airbus.com/en">Airbus</a>, <a href="https://www.safran-group.com/pressroom/technip-energies-airbus-safran-and-tereos-join-forces-develop-sustainable-aviation-fuel-production-2026-06-09">Safran</a>, <strong>Technip Energies</strong> and <strong>Tereos</strong> aim to develop a <strong>large-scale SAF plant at the Port of Dunkirk</strong> (Dunkerque, France) through their joint venture “Rebound”. The target capacity is <strong>around 160,000 tonnes of Alcohol-to-Jet SAF per year</strong>.</p>
<p>The project is based on the <strong>“Alcohol-to-Jet Fuel”</strong> pathway and will use advanced ethanol from agricultural and forestry residues, which can be upgraded into drop-in jet fuel. During the development phase, Technip Energies will act as the lead developer across the value chain, from feedstock through to aviation end use, including placing the fuel on the market directly at the airport.</p>
<p>A key enabler for implementation is that the Port of Dunkirk has already allocated an industrial site to Technip Energies, which is expected to provide logistical and permitting advantages. The partners are now funding project development including engineering studies; the establishment of the joint venture is subject to the usual approvals and is expected to be finalised in the second half of 2026.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="p1">In the UK, a <strong>pilot facility</strong> has started up with the aim of converting non-recyclable plastic waste into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (<strong>SAF</strong>). The operator is <a href="https://www.cleanplanet.com/technologies">Clean Planet Technologies</a>, and the “Sustainability Innovation Centre” is located at Discovery Park in Sandwich (Kent, Southeast England).</p>
<p class="p1">What’s interesting here is less the headline “plastic to jet fuel” and more the focus on the hard part of industrialisation: the facility has been built specifically for feedstock and fuel testing, validation, and progressing through ASTM qualification, supported by the government-backed UK SAF Clearing House.</p>
<p class="p1">This is a positive signal for the SAF roadmap: alongside HEFA &amp; other established pathways, additional routes for “difficult” residual feedstocks are emerging. At the same time, a pilot is still a pilot—the next step is whether quality, scalability, and certification hold up in real-world practice.</p>
